Qualifier formula

How standardized scores are computed — fully reproducible. Back to standings →

Reproducible. The live recompute from the raw scores matches every judge's frozen parameters exactly.

The formula

Each judge scores on different scales, so raw totals are standardized per judge before they are summed. For a judge j over the entries they scored:

meanj = ( Σ raw ) / nj
stddevj = √( Σ ( raw − meanj )² / nj )  (population, ÷ n)
z( j, e ) = ( raw − meanj ) / stddevj

A team's total is the sum of every active judge's z for that entry. Higher is better.

Panel: 4 of 5 invited judges counted (only judges who scored entries contribute to the curve).

Worked example

Take a raw total of 82 from ktgster:

z = ( 82 − 53.6809 ) / 19.2289
z = 1.472742
